 About C A R L A

Carla is a full-time real estate consultant with Long and Foster Realtors specializing in residential and multi-unit sales servicing the Washington, DC, and Maryland’s Montgomery County and Prince George County.

Carla ’s first career in Manhattan as an accessories buyer introduced her to a global world of fashion, style and cuisine.  The excitement of the industry also allowed Carla to indulge in the world’s top dining and entertaining experiences which prepared her perfectly for her next challenge.

Carla recognized a void in the food and travel industry so in 1996 she self-published her first book, Satisfy your Soul, a Guide to African American, African & Caribbean Restaurants (Impressions Books).  The success of SYS caught the attention of Avalon Publishing who then commission her to write Steppin’ Out, An African American Entertainment Guide to our 20 Favorite Cities.  Her books established her as a sought after commentator of food and entertainment appearing in articles in the New York Times, USA Today, et al., and offering  weekly restaurant reviews on local and national radio and in numerous articles in travel magazines and on-line.

A High Road Well Traveled

Carla gets her entrepreneurial spirit from her parents, both successful business owners.  However, their most important work was during the five years that the family lived in Dakar, Senegal serving with the Peace Corps. Here Carla learned the importance of community and giving. During her 10 years as co-founder of TALK DC, Carla, along with her husband George hosted numerous fundraising events and they are currently involved with several non-profits in the Washington area.  The trust and camaraderie Carla established through her net work of friends and associates and the customer service she provided over the 20+ years in the fashion/retail/food industry all prepared in making Carla’s transition to real estate, effortless.

Change is Good

It is easy to see how Carla’s past opportunities help shape her into the successful realtor she is today. Her passion for service, her caring personality and her love of design and architecture offers the right mixture of natural talent and knowledge.  First-time home buyers appreciate her patience and detailed consultation.  Stepped-up buyers and investors look towards her for practical solutions to complicated issues. Sellers receive the benefit of her fashion-forward eye for style and design, offering critical direction as well as a personal touch when preparing their home for sale.

Change is good. It allows us to learn from our past, and achieve what we seek in our future. Carla’s reputation as a positive, assertive person allows her to always take the high road, therefore when change presents itself, she is ready to tackle it head on.
